Vietnam: High demand in training of high-tech agriculture Advanced training programmes are needed to improve human resources working in the high-tech agriculture sector in Vietnam. The national plan to develop human resources in the 2011-20 period has targeted increasing trained employees in the agriculture and forestry sectors to 50 per cent by 2020 from 15.5 per cent in 2010. Under the plan, the industry would face a shortage of 3.2 million trained laborers. According to Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, Director of the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (IPSARD) the agricultural sector had few workers with training and had mainly depended on laborers’ experience and low standards for laborers have had a negative impact on their capacity to approach advanced science and technologies. That issue will be a great obstacle in implementation of the country’s high tech agriculture development. One of the reasons of labor low quality is education and vocation

Farming 4.0: The future of agriculture? The Today, traditional methods of farming are gradually giving way to high technology farming or high-tech farming due to land constraints. This type of farming uses modern machinery and farm chemicals to obtain maximum output from a given plot of land or a group of animals. Countries that practise high-tech farming include the United states of Amerca, the United Kingdom and Singapore. Fruit and vegetable farming Two methods of high-tech farming have been found to be effective in producing more fruits and vegetables. They are hydroponics and aeroponics. Both methods differ from traditional methods of farming in that they do not need soil and a large plot of land. Hydroponics The word 'hydroponics' comes from two Greek word: hydro meaning 'water' and ponos meaning 'working water'. It is a technique of growing plants in a nutrient solution or fertilisers dissolved in water. In a hyd

From running indoor vertical vegetable farms that grow crops in stacked layers, to raising fitter fish that are robust against aquatic diseases, farmers here are finding ways to overcome the limitations of traditional farming. They are using hi-tech farming and high-yield methods to transform their work from back-breaking labour into lucrative businesses. As high-tech farming mainly refers to agricultural methods using the latest technology, like hydroponics and aerophonics. That is to say growing veggies in water or in the air only without the use of soil and there are also orchid farms and ornamental fish. It is also called agrotechnology here. There are minimal physical inputs to the system, but it is capital intensive since large capital outlay is required to buy specialized equipment, maintenance, training of labour etc. It is also a commercial farming system, farmers invest in them both for local and export m
